Dubai unveils plans for first integrated cancer hospital opening in 2026

Dubai Health has officially announced the establishment of the emirate’s inaugural comprehensive cancer hospital, the Hamdan Bin Rashid Cancer Hospital, set to open its doors in 2026. The hospital’s design was unveiled at a ceremony graced by the presence of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, where the groundbreaking model of care was also introduced.

The ceremonial event took place at the hospital’s designated site and was attended by prominent figures including Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Health Board of Directors; Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-Chairman of the Dubai Health Board of Directors; and Sheikh Rashid bin Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Establishment for Medical and Educational Sciences.

The Hamdan Bin Rashid Cancer Hospital is being developed through generous donations channeled via the Al Jalila Foundation, which leads Dubai Health’s philanthropic endeavors. These collective contributions from individuals and organizations will facilitate the creation of a state-of-the-art 56,000 square-meter facility.

The hospital, located in the Al Jaddaf area, is slated to house 50 clinics, 30 clinical research areas, 60 infusion rooms, 10 urgent care rooms, five radiotherapy rooms, and 116 in-patient beds. The healing environment for patients and their families will feature 19 gardens spread across the hospital campus. Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering, has been chosen as the project’s architect.

As a part of Dubai Health, the first integrated academic health system in Dubai, the comprehensive cancer hospital will provide a full spectrum of care services under one roof, from early diagnosis to treatment and supportive care, with a focus on the ‘Patient First’ promise. Additionally, select treatments and services will be made available to patients in the comfort of their homes, ensuring accessible continuity of care.

This innovative healthcare institution will usher in a transformative shift in care delivery by transitioning from a traditional in-patient model to an ambulatory model of care. The hospital will integrate primary care with diagnosis and treatment to enable earlier detection and intervention in the patient’s journey.

Research and clinical trials will be integral to the hospital’s services, offering opportunities for personalized, patient-centric, evidence-based care to achieve the best possible patient outcomes.

Sheikh Hamdan expressed his gratitude to all donors, emphasizing their invaluable contributions to the future of Dubai’s healthcare sector and the realization of Dubai Social Agenda 33’s goal to establish a world-class healthcare system.
