A motorist whose reckless driving caused a crash that left another man with lasting mobility problems has been ordered to hand over AED 150,000 in compensation, according to a ruling from the Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Cases Court reported by Khaleej Times.
The sum covers both the bodily harm and the emotional toll the injured man endured after the two vehicles collided. Medical records submitted during the proceedings showed he sustained several broken bones, damage to soft tissue, and a permanent partial disability affecting how he moves, changes that the court noted have interfered with his independence and everyday routines.
The compensation figure came out of a civil case the injured man filed after the driver had already been convicted in criminal court. That earlier verdict held the driver responsible for disregarding traffic safety rules and triggering the accident.
When he brought the civil claim, the plaintiff asked for AED 300,000, arguing that the crash had saddled him with heavy medical costs, cost him income while he was unable to work through his recovery, and left him with ongoing psychological distress.
The judge treated the criminal conviction as settling the question of who was at fault. Weighing the severity of the disability, the cost of the man’s treatment, and the persistent pain he continues to deal with, the court set AED 150,000 as the appropriate amount to cover his physical and moral losses.
