Eight-year-old Gail Elora Loise Abagao Deomampo of Carmona City, Cavite added three international awards to her growing record this month, topping the Science field at the ASIAROPE International Olympiad while making a strong showing in English.
The Grade 3 pupil from Saint Michael Montessori de Carmona earned a Gold Medal in Science (Category 2) for one of the highest marks on the written test and took the 2nd Runner-Up trophy in the same category for finishing among the best overall scorers. She rounded out her haul with a Silver Medal in English.
Organized by GLOW Inc., the olympiad ran September 4 to 8, 2026 at the Asawin Grand Convention Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand. The meet covered four subjects — English, Science, Mathematics, and Journalism — and drew student delegates from the Philippines, South Africa, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Bulgaria, India, and Thailand.
What set the trip apart was that Gail competed with no familiar faces around her apart from her mother, who accompanied her. Rather than shrinking from the unfamiliar setting, she struck up friendships with delegates from every other country taking part, a poise her family said matched her results on paper.
“This achievement is a testament to her hard work, love for learning, and brave heart. She did not let being the only one she knew stop her—she turned it into an opportunity to connect with the world. We hope this inspires other young learners to aim high, be brave, and be kind on the global stage,” her family said.
The Bangkok showing came just weeks after Gail and her older sister, Gwenn Louisse, represented the Philippines at the Asian Champions League International Finals in Hong Kong last August, where the two siblings were the country’s only entrants and collected five trophies and two gold medals between them.
