The Laguna Provincial Council has unanimously declared drag artist Amadeus Fernando Pagente, known by his stage name Pura Luka Vega, as persona non grata due to his contentious “Ama Namin” performance.
The declaration followed a series of similar actions in various local governments, including Cagayan de Oro, Manila, General Santos, Floridablanca in Pampanga, Toboso in Negros Occidental, and the province of Bukidnon.
Laguna board member Christian Niño Lajara announced the decision via a Facebook post, emphasizing the council’s commitment to preserving local culture and beliefs.
“It is our duty to uphold the values of respect and dignity towards our fellow individuals,” Lajara stated. He further noted that one’s celebrity status shouldn’t be grounds for undermining traditions and beliefs.
