3 Filipino seafarers in ICU after drone strike on container ship in Strait of Hormuz

Three Filipino crew members remain in intensive care following a drone attack on the container ship San Antonio in the Strait of Hormuz earlier this week, the Department of Migrant Workers confirmed Thursday.

Migrant Workers Secretary Cacdac, speaking to reporters at Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay, said all seven Filipinos aboard the vessel survived the strike. Four sustained minor injuries, while the other three are receiving intensive care treatment at a hospital.

“All seafarers are okay. They are alive. They survived the attack,” Cacdac said.

The San Antonio was transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday when it was struck — a strategically critical waterway that has repeatedly been the site of security incidents amid longstanding tensions involving Iran and the United States.

The DMW said its Migrant Workers Offices are in active coordination with hospital staff to track the condition of the injured crew and ensure proper care is being provided. Cacdac added that the government is extending assistance to both the affected seafarers and their families, consistent with a directive issued by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
