UAE sends 400 tonnes of food aid to address Gaza humanitarian crisis

The UAE, in partnership with the American Near East Refugee Aid (Anera), has successfully delivered 400 tonnes of food aid to the northern Gaza Strip. This initiative is part of the UAE’s broader commitment to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and support approximately 120,000 people in need.

Reem Al Hashimy, the UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation, emphasized the significance of this effort. “The UAE’s safe and successful delivery and distribution of food relief to the Gaza Strip, especially the Northern Gaza Strip, marks a significant scaling up in action,” she stated. Al Hashimy further highlighted the UAE’s dedication to solidarity and relief efforts in the region, adding, “We remain firmly committed to our position of solidarity with the brotherly Palestinian people and alleviating suffering in the Gaza Strip.”

Sean Carroll, President and CEO of Anera, expressed gratitude for the UAE’s support. “Anera and the people we serve are extremely grateful for support from the government and people of the UAE, that allows us to deliver this food to northern Gaza, where the needs are so great,” he said.

Following the allocation of $15 million under the Amalthea Fund to enhance aid delivery in Gaza, the UAE continues its efforts in collaboration with international partners. To date, the UAE has provided over 31,000 tonnes of humanitarian supplies through various means including flights, airdrops, trucks, and ships.

Additionally, the UAE has launched sustainable relief projects in Gaza, including the establishment of automatic bakeries and desalination plants to provide essential food and water supplies to the local population.
