Queen Elizabeth 2 Hotel temporarily closes due to power outage since Aug 6

The renowned Queen Elizabeth 2 Hotel, better known as QE2, located at Dubai’s Port Rashid, has been temporarily shut down following an “unprecedented power outage”. The closure, which began on Sunday, August 6, came after heavy rainstorms and strong winds affected the city, resulting in power cuts at the hotel.

The unexpected weather event on August 5, which included rain coupled with hail, not only led to disruptions at the QE2 but also caused significant damage throughout Dubai. Fallen trees and road signs were reported in several areas.

In a notice to potential guests, the QE2 administration stated, “Unfortunately, an unexpected weather event last 05 August has led to an unprecedented power outage to the entire hotel.”

The hotel, a famed floating attraction of the city, announced it would remain closed until August 16. During this period, all facilities, from guest rooms to restaurants and recreational activities, will be inaccessible.

The management added, “Our team is actively working to resolve this situation as soon as possible, however, we are unable to indicate as to when our systems will be fully operational again.”

Last week’s unusual weather patterns didn’t only affect Dubai. Reports indicate that rain and hail also impacted five other emirates.
