Palace wants police to look into supposed June 12 attack on Malacañang

Reports of a supposed scheme to mount an attack on Malacañang during Independence Day should be acted upon by the country’s law enforcement and investigative agencies, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said.

The call followed online claims by columnist Ramon Tulfo, who alleged that intelligence material tackled during a meeting at Camp Crame pointed to groups sympathetic to Vice President Sara Duterte intending to “storm Malacañang” on June 12. In a separate Facebook post, Tulfo wrote that the Philippine National Police had obtained intelligence about an attack supposedly being prepared “by a religious sect,” though he stopped short of naming the group.

According to Castro, no verification of the alleged plot has been made by authorities so far.

“It is within the mandate of law enforcement agencies and investigating bodies to act on these kinds of illegal activities,” she said.

She also pressed the public to stay on guard against parties she described as attempting to take advantage of the prevailing political friction. “Let us all be wary of the forces of darkness,” Castro said, adding that such moves were not unprecedented. “But actions like these are nothing new, as they have long wanted to install their leader who is greedy for power, even before 2028,” she said.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is set to headline the June 12 Independence Day commemorations, with the program for the occasion still to be released.
