More expressways to offer toll discounts for PUVs starting March 23

Transport Secretary Giovanni Lopez has thanked toll operators for extending discounted rates to public utility vehicle drivers, as four more expressways prepare to implement reduced toll fees this Sunday.

The discounts cover the Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway (CAVITEX), R1 Expressway Extension, Muntinlupa-Cavite Expressway (MCX), and the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) along the Tipo-to-Tarlac stretch.

On CAVITEX, Class 1 vehicles will pay P39, Class 2 at P78, and Class 3 at P117. The R1 Extension carries steeper rates at P88, P176, and P264 for the three vehicle classes, respectively. MCX offers the lowest reductions at P23, P47, and P70, while SCTEX — covering the longer Tipo-Tarlac corridor — carries discounts of P600, P1,200, and P1,800 per class.

“Nagpapasalamat tayo sa mga toll operators dahil malaking tulong itong mga discount para sa ating mga PUV drivers. Alam natin ang hirap na dinaranas ng transport sector araw-araw,” Lopez said in a statement Saturday.

“Kaya tuloy-tuloy lang tayo sa pagpapatupad ng mga programang direktang makatutulong sa kanila,” he added.

Authorities cited the continued rise in fuel prices, driven largely by the ongoing Middle East conflict, as the backdrop for the expanded relief measures.

The newly covered expressways are separate from an earlier government announcement that granted a two-month toll reduction for PUVs, public buses, and freight vehicles along NLEX, SLEX, and STAR Tollway.
