President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has vowed that the Philippine government will remain committed to improving the lives of overseas Filipinos, particularly those in Japan, recognizing their vital role in building strong diplomatic and cultural ties between the two nations.
Speaking before a crowd of Filipinos in Osaka over the weekend, Marcos underscored the contributions of the Filipino community—especially the younger generation—in shaping the relationship between the Philippines and Japan.
“Through you, the spirit of friendship with our Japanese friends continues to thrive,” Marcos said, emphasizing that Filipinos abroad serve as “living bridges” between the two countries. “We have every chance, through you, to build even stronger connections and shared values.”
The President urged Filipinos in Japan to embrace their heritage and support national goals, stating, “I hope you will join me and the Philippine nation in helping our community here in Japan to grow even more in love with the Philippines.”
Marcos also outlined the government’s ongoing initiatives to support Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), including the establishment of airport lounges to provide them with more comfort during travel. He added that the Philippines is working on securing bilateral labor agreements with various countries to better protect Filipino workers abroad.
“I recognize the weight of your sacrifice and the strength that it takes to provide for your families from afar. And that is why we will never tire of honoring you and finding ways to improve your lives,” he said. “You deserve not only our gratitude, but you deserve our full support.”
President Marcos has been in Japan since Thursday for a series of engagements, including the upcoming World Expo 2025 and business meetings aimed at strengthening economic partnerships.
