Fewer crimes, faster response: Dubai police report stronger Q1 security numbers

Smart analytics and preemptive operations are behind a decline in criminal and disturbance reports across Dubai during the first three months of 2026, according to the emirate’s police force.

The figures were presented at a first-quarter performance review of the General Department of Criminal Investigation, where senior officials assessed key indicators, reviewed earlier decisions, and examined the security landscape across the emirate. The session also took stock of ongoing projects and challenges encountered in the field.

Major General Hareb Mohammad Al Shamsi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Affairs, attributed the improvement to coordinated efforts blending field operations with analytical work. He pointed to the “Reconciliation is Best” initiative, targeted interventions in crime-prone areas, legal awareness programmes, and corrective measures as contributing factors that have helped ease tensions and resolve disputes through structured, non-confrontational means.

“This has helped deter offenders and enabled authorities to apprehend suspects before crimes are committed,” Al Shamsi said.

Fraud and cybercrime received particular attention, with authorities expanding public outreach, strengthening monitoring systems, and upgrading cybersecurity infrastructure to keep pace with shifting criminal methods. Al Shamsi framed the effort as one with direct implications for residents’ everyday lives.

“These measures aim to protect individuals’ financial, digital and personal security, while raising public awareness on fraud and cyber intrusion prevention,” he said.

On the role of technology in policing, Al Shamsi was direct: “Smart data and advanced analytics have become essential tools in modern policing.” He called on investigators to continuously study crime patterns — both conventional and digital — and to generate precise data that can guide operational decisions and anticipate emerging threats.

The review was attended by Major General Eid Mohammad Hareb, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs; Major General Sheikh Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Mualla, Director of the General Department of Excellence and Leadership; and Brigadier Ahmad Al Muhairi, Director of the Inspection and Control Department, among other department heads and officers.

Several staff members were recognised at the close of the meeting for their contributions to police performance and public safety.
