More than 650,000 passengers have already experienced Starlink-equipped Emirates flights since the airline began equipping its Boeing 777-300ER fleet — and now the technology is making its way onto the world’s largest commercial aircraft.
The first Emirates A380 fitted with Starlink connectivity has returned to Dubai following installation and aviation certification work carried out in Newquay, United Kingdom. The rollout across additional A380s is expected to pick up pace throughout 2026, with further installations planned at Emirates Engineering facilities in Dubai.
Unlike the airline’s 777 configuration, the A380 installation required a distinct engineering approach. The aircraft’s double-decker layout and higher passenger capacity called for three Starlink antennas per plane — compared to fewer on the narrower 777 — along with additional wireless access points and optimised inter-deck integration. The system is capable of delivering more than 2 Gbps of total aircraft bandwidth, a substantial jump from the sub-1 Mbps bandwidth that Emirates’ first-generation inflight internet systems could offer.
The service will be available at no charge to passengers across all cabin classes, covering streaming, gaming, browsing, and work applications on personal devices. Emirates has also indicated that Live TV streaming via Starlink is planned — first on personal devices, with seatback screen integration to follow later.
The A380 upgrade is part of a broader investment push that has seen 93 Emirates aircraft go through what the airline describes as one of the most extensive retrofit programmes in commercial aviation. Those refurbishments have included Premium Economy cabin installations, refreshed interiors across all classes, and an inflight entertainment system offering more than 6,500 channels. In mid-2025, the airline also opened a dedicated cabin crew training facility in Dubai — a US$8 million centre built to support its 25,000-strong crew workforce in hospitality standards.
The 25 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft already carrying Starlink remain in service while A380 installations continue.
