Elon Musk announces video, audio call features for X, formerly known as Twitter

tech entrepreneur Elon Musk announced on Thursday that X, the platform previously known as Twitter, will soon introduce video and audio call features.

Musk aims to make X the “everything app,” a single platform for various types of digital interactions.

Musk took to X to share the news: “Video & audio calls coming to X. Works on iOS, Android, Mac & PC. No phone number needed. X is the effective global address book.”

He emphasized that the calling feature will work seamlessly across different operating systems, including iOS, Android, Mac, and PC, all without the need for a phone number.

Elon Musk has ambitious plans for X, envisioning it as more than just a social media platform. “X is the effective global address book,” he tweeted.

This new development would make X unique, offering a set of features no other app provides in the same way.

This isn’t the first significant update to X under Musk’s leadership. In May, he introduced features such as the ability to reply to any message in a thread and using any emoticon for reactions.

Musk also promised a rapid development pace for encrypted Direct Messages, stating, “The acid test is that I could not see your DMs even if there was a gun to my head.”

Furthermore, X also recently rolled out a live video feature, enabling users to go live by tapping an icon while composing a tweet.

The addition of video and audio calls appears to be part of Musk’s long-term vision to make X an all-encompassing platform.

As Musk had tweeted back in May, “Coming soon will be voice and video chat from your handle to anyone on this platform, so you can talk to people anywhere in the world without giving them your phone number.”
