Dubai beats Tokyo and Rome as best city at night for 2026

Travellers searching for the most striking after-dark cityscapes have a new top destination to consider. Dubai has been crowned the world’s most beautiful city at night for 2026 in a study released by digital entertainment platform JB.com.

The emirate’s first-place finish rested heavily on how secure visitors feel walking its streets after sunset. Dubai posted the leading figure on the nighttime safety index with a score of 83, a result the researchers said allows people to move around the city comfortably once darkness falls.

Social media activity reinforced that standing. More than 500,000 Instagram posts captured Dubai’s illuminated evening scenes, a volume the study cited as evidence of the city’s pull among both tourists and those who live there.

For visitors wanting to take in the skyline directly, the city provides 17 panoramic platforms and viewing locations, along with 111 organised sunset tours that offer different ways to experience the hours after dark.

The rankings were built around six measures: the number of Instagram posts tied to night scenes, the count of elevated viewing platforms and towers, the range of available night tours, post-sunset safety levels, the degree of light pollution, and the brightness of nighttime illumination overhead.

Behind Dubai, Tokyo secured second place, helped by the circulation of its evening photographs online, numerous elevated vantage points overlooking the skyline, an assortment of night tours and high safety marks. Rome followed in third, where the breadth of after-dark offerings stood out — the Italian capital logged the most organised evening tours and held the largest number of viewing platforms among the leading five.

London placed fourth on the strength of its social media footprint and its well-known nighttime landmarks. New York rounded out the top five, drawing on the renown of its skyline and the wide selection of vantage points from which visitors can take in the city after dark.
