DMW facilitates repatriation of OFWs who died in UAE floods

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is currently coordinating the repatriation of the bodies of three Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who tragically lost their lives due to recent widespread flooding in the United Arab Emirates.

According to a DMW advisory, officials from the Migrant Workers Office in Dubai and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Office have met with the families of the deceased OFWs to explain the necessary procedures for bringing their remains back to the Philippines.

In a statement on the social media platform X, DMW Officer in Charge, Undersecretary Hans Leo Cacdac, confirmed that two of the deceased were Filipino women who died of suffocation inside their vehicle during the height of the flooding. The third victim was a male OFW who sustained major injuries after his vehicle fell into a sinkhole. Although he survived, two other OFWs accompanying him were injured and are currently recuperating.

Officials from the Migrant Workers Office in Dubai have also visited the two survivors who are currently hospitalized following the incident.

Meanwhile, DMW, OWWA, and personnel from the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai are assisting stranded OFWs and other affected Filipinos due to the widespread flooding. Many Filipinos have experienced flight delays or rescheduled their flights at Dubai International Airport due to the severe weather conditions.

Stranded individuals have been provided with food packs, essential personal items, and airline flight assistance. Additionally, the Migrant Workers Office in Abu Dhabi distributed food and relief packs to approximately 800 OFWs residing and working in the Al Touba District in Al Ain, which was severely affected by the flooding.
