Cameraman killed by wild elephant while reporting in Kerala, India

A tragic incident occurred in Kerala’s Palakkad district when AV Mukesh, a 34-year-old cameraman for Mathrubhumi News, was killed by a wild elephant on Wednesday. Mukesh was filming the movement of a stray elephant herd near the area between Malambuzha and Kanjikode, known for frequent wild elephant sightings.

While attempting to capture the elephants crossing a river, Mukesh was attacked and seriously injured, despite his colleagues managing to escape to safety. He was promptly taken to a nearby hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.

Mukesh, from Parappanangadi in Malappuram district, had been with the Mathrubhumi News Palakkad bureau for a year, following several years in the channel’s New Delhi bureau. He was also a noted journalist, having written over 100 articles focusing on the lives of marginalized people.

His death has drawn condolences from various political figures, including Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Leader of the Opposition VD Satheesan. Mukesh is survived by his wife. His colleagues recall his contributions to both journalism and community, highlighting his efforts to aid those he wrote about by donating portions of his salary.
