Camel in Saudi receives AED27,000 Van Cleef necklace, shines in viral video

A camel in Saudi Arabia has been gifted a lavish Van Cleef necklace, as shown in a recent social media video. The footage reveals the camel proudly wearing the gold necklace, valued at approximately SR28,000, while a popular Saudi song plays in the background.

The identity of the generous owner remains unknown, as does their exact location. This opulent gesture underscores the increasing prominence of camels in the kingdom, where they are not just traditional animals but also significant economic assets.

Saudi Arabia is home to around 1.8 million camels, collectively valued at over SR50 billion. These animals, often referred to as the “ships of the desert,” are integral to the desert lifestyle and have recently seen a surge in commercial interest.

The kingdom celebrates this heritage annually with the King Abdulaziz Camel Festival, the largest camel pageant globally, organized by the Saudi Camel Club. Additionally, Saudi Arabia has embarked on a project to document camel strains using DNA tests, aiming to preserve rare species. This initiative involves registering camels on a dedicated portal, providing each with an ID card and a chip containing vital information, including ownership and veterinary records.
