Butcher shop in Abu Dhabi closed by authorities for violating food safety laws

The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) has taken decisive action, closing down Wafrah Supply of Meat LLC due to severe breaches of food safety regulations. The closure follows the butcher shop’s repeated violations, posing a significant threat to public health.

Wafrah Supply of Meat LLC had been found guilty of multiple infractions, including the sale of spoiled meat unfit for consumption and the trading of meat without proper labelling indicating slaughter and expiration dates. Despite prior warnings and violations, the establishment failed to rectify its practices, prompting ADAFSA to enforce closure.

This move underscores ADAFSA’s commitment to upholding food safety standards outlined in Law No. (2) of 2008 regarding food. The authority emphasized that the closure will persist until all violations are addressed, and the establishment demonstrates full compliance with regulations.

Recent closures of two other butcheries and a restaurant underscore the seriousness of food safety concerns in the emirate. ADAFSA urged the public to remain vigilant and report any violations or suspicions regarding food items to the toll-free number 800555, emphasizing the importance of community engagement in maintaining food integrity and public health.
