Government welfare agencies will step in to handle the continuing recovery of two Filipino workers who suffered strokes in the United Arab Emirates, now that doctors at Al Qassimi Hospital in Sharjah have deemed both fit to leave the facility.
The commitment came during a September 10, 2026 visit by Department of Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac, who checked on the two overseas Filipino workers and confirmed that follow-up care would be shouldered jointly by the DMW and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
One of the patients traces his origins to Lubao, Pampanga, a detail that will shape where his treatment continues once he returns home. “At Sharjah’s Al Qassimi Hospital, we visited two OFW stroke patients who are fit for release, with post-acute care provided by DMW-OWWA. One of them is from Lubao, Pampanga, so we’ll need Gov Nanay Pineda and our OFW Hospital for further treatment. Lahat po ng ito ay tagubilin ni Pangulong Bongbong Marcos,” Cacdac said, pointing to both provincial officials and the government’s dedicated hospital for migrant workers as part of the plan.
Cacdac framed the entire arrangement as an instruction handed down by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
The secretary closed his visit by acknowledging the staff who had looked after the two Filipinos, singling out the hospital’s administrators along with the Filipino nurses and fellow healthcare personnel who form part of Al Qassimi’s workforce.
