On Wednesday, October 4, renowned drag artist Pura Luka Vega was arrested by the Manila Police District over alleged evasion of investigations related to criminal charges filed against them.
Vega was taken into custody from their residence in Sta. Cruz, Manila and subsequently transported to the Manila Police District Station 3, according to Manila Police District Spokesperson Philipp Ines.
The arrest came in the wake of Vega’s “Ama Namin” performance which faced backlash and accusations of promoting “immoral doctrines, obscene publications and exhibitions, and indecent shows”. As a result, an arrest warrant was issued against Vega.
Rod Singh, a close friend and staunch supporter of Vega, expressed his disappointment over the decision. He said, “The arrest warrant was issued today even though we filed a motion to reopen today. Vega is now in police custody.”
Singh further noted that Vega has consistently attended hearings related to cases in Quezon City. He also mentioned that they haven’t received a copy of the subpoena from Manila yet.
