42-year-old man arrested for bomb joke at Davao International Airport

A 42-year-old man has been apprehended for cracking a bomb joke at Davao International Airport in Davao City, as reported by the PNP Aviation Security Group (PNP AVSEGROUP).

The man, who was on the verge of boarding a flight to Singapore, allegedly remarked in vernacular to airport personnel, “there are no fragile items inside [my] baggage, only a bomb,” when questioned by Customer Service Agents (CSAs) of Philippine Airport Ground Support Solutions Inc. (PAGSS) at the check-in counter.

Prompt action was taken as CSAs immediately alerted the Davao International Airport Police Station (DIAPS), leading to the man’s arrest.

“Subsequently, airport authorities effected an arrest on the suspect while informing him of the nature of the offense made and his constitutional rights in a language he understands, utilizing an alternative recording device,” stated the PNP Aviation Security Group.

The individual was temporarily detained at Sasa Police Station and charged with violating PD 1727, which pertains to the malicious dissemination of false information or the willful making of any threat concerning bombs, explosives, or similar means of destruction.

PNP Aviation Security Group director Brigadier General Christopher Abrahano emphasized, “The PNP AVSEGROUP will never allow lawbreakers to succeed in their attempt to interrupt airport operations. Rest assured that we will firmly enforce the law to its fullest extent.”
