A group of young Filipino performers added to Team Philippines’ medal haul at the 2026 World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA), with the group drumming act Sailor’s Beat and three child soloists — including performers as young as eight — earning honors at the international “Talent Olympics” held here from July 13 to 21, 2026.
Sailor’s Beat, competing as a group drumming act, took four medals across the competition’s style divisions: silver in the open, original, and contemporary categories, and bronze in the classical category. The wins placed the ensemble among the standout group acts in Team Philippines’ delegation.
Three young soloists also medaled. Tatiana G. Panganiban, 9, of Lipa and San Juan, Batangas, earned bronze for her performance of “Barbie Girl.” Joze Alvin Philippe Salud, 8, of San Juan, Batangas, took bronze with “Noy Pi,” while Ken Lara, 11, also of San Juan, Batangas, won bronze as well.
The performers were part of the larger WCOPA Team Philippines 2026 contingent, which represented the country against delegates from more than 50 nations. Led by National Director Gerry Mercado and Creative Director Annie Tajanlangit Mercado, the delegation brought home a total of 334 medals and awards, including the Senior Grand Champion Performer of the World Trophy, three Performer of the World Star Trophies, 10 Finalist Gold Medals, 60 Semi-Finalist Medals, and 86 gold, 79 silver, and 58 bronze medals. The team also secured 31 Overall Division Champion Plaques, four New York Film Academy scholarships, one Millennium Dance Complex scholarship, and placed second in the Best Production Group Performance.
This year’s competition carried added weight for the delegates. The 2025 championships had been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances, requiring many performers to wait an additional year before they could compete. Despite the delay, the team continued training and preparing until the event pushed through in 2026.
WCOPA, often described as the “Olympics of the Performing Arts,” is an international talent competition that draws performers from more than 70 countries across categories including singing, dancing, acting, modeling, instrumental performance, and variety arts. The event was founded in 1996 by Griff O’Neil, a former Miss Universe Pageant executive. The 2026 edition was held at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort and Casino.
