Years before she could read, Arabella Mieko De Leon was already in the gym. That early start has begun to show its returns, with the young Filipina gymnast collecting three medals at the recent Inter Bahrain Gymnastics Championships.
Competing in the Level 4 division, De Leon climbed to the top of the podium twice, winning gold in both Vault and Uneven Bars. She added a silver on Floor Exercise to round out her performance at the meet.
The championships drew a deep field, with more than 100 gymnasts representing seven clubs. De Leon, who competes for Sparta Gymnastics in the Kingdom of Bahrain, held her own in that crowded company.
Her results in Bahrain build on a record she has been assembling for some time. Last year she was named Overall Champion in Level 3 at championships staged in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
De Leon has trained in the sport since the age of three.
