Woman faces jail time and deportation for blackmailing Australian consultant in Dubai

A 45-year-old beautician has been sentenced to three months in jail by the Dubai Criminal Court for attempting to extort Dh1 million from a man by threatening to damage his reputation. The Court also ordered her deportation following the completion of her prison sentence.

The case, heard last Wednesday, involved the Polish defendant leveraging sensitive personal details to blackmail a 57-year-old Australian consultant, with whom she previously had an intimate relationship. The conflict began when the beautician discovered the consultant was married, leading her to demand compensation for the betrayal.

Despite the consultant paying Dh300,000 in hopes of keeping the affair from his family, the threats continued. According to Awatif Mohammad from Awatif Shoqi Advocates, the defendant’s actions included sending disrespectful messages and intimate photographs to the man’s family after their relationship ended in March 2023.

The consultant reported the beautician to the police in May after enduring repeated calls and messages. Alongside the criminal proceedings, a civil case has been initiated, seeking Dh51,000 in temporary compensation for the emotional distress caused to the consultant.
