Three dead, five hurt as gunman opens fire at Tacloban high school

Gunfire erupted inside San Jose National High School in Tacloban City on Monday morning, leaving three people dead and five others wounded, police said.

The attack unfolded at roughly 9 a.m., according to early accounts relayed by the Philippine National Police, which placed the toll at three fatalities and five injured. Investigators have not yet established a motive, and the police account of how the violence began remained incomplete as authorities pieced together what happened on the campus.

Footage shared across social media captured the chaos that followed. Students and teachers were seen rushing away from the buildings, several of them weeping, while a group of pupils carried an injured female classmate clear of the danger.

Among the three killed, at least one was reportedly a student, though that detail had not been formally confirmed by police as of Monday.

The PNP said its inquiry into the circumstances of the shooting was ongoing.
