Parts of the UAE’s eastern and southern regions may see scattered showers this afternoon as convective clouds build up, even as the mercury pushes toward 50°C in some areas, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).
Inland zones will bear the brunt of the heat, with readings between 45°C and 50°C. Coastal areas and islands can expect 42°C to 47°C, while the mountains stay cooler at 33°C to 39°C.
Forecasters described skies as fair to partly cloudy for the day. South-easterly to north-easterly winds will blow at 10 to 25 km/h, occasionally picking up to 40 km/h over inland stretches and kicking up dust in exposed spots. Waters in both the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman should stay slight.
The NCM traced the current pattern to a surface low-pressure system reaching in from the east, paired with an upper-air low. Together, the two set the stage for convective clouds to form during afternoon hours.
Those conditions are likely to hold through Friday, keeping the door open for cloud buildup and rain over eastern, southern, and at times western and interior parts of the country. Winds are set to pick up around midweek, with gusts of up to 50 km/h expected Wednesday and Thursday that could stir blowing dust across the region.
