Qatar sets March 29 as target date for full return to in-person schooling

Qatar is gradually resuming physical schooling after nearly a month of distance learning triggered by the regional conflict, with full classroom attendance across all schools and kindergartens expected by Sunday, March 29.

According to Qatar’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the return follows a stepped schedule. Higher education institutions and private training centers resumed in-person classes today, March 24, while school students continue distance learning through Thursday, March 26. Teaching and administrative staff are due back on school premises Wednesday, March 25 to prepare facilities ahead of the full student return.

Nurseries are also set to reopen for in-person care on Wednesday.

The ministry shifted all schools to remote learning on February 28 — the same day the regional conflict broke out — as a precautionary measure. According to The Peninsula Qatar, that directive covered all government and private schools, universities, and nurseries, with no fixed return date at the time.

According to Qatar’s Ministry of Interior, schools have been advised to review emergency preparedness measures, including evacuation routes, exits, and assembly points, and to ensure students are briefed on emergency response procedures ahead of the reopening.

The phased return coincides with the post-Eid Al-Fitr holiday period, providing a natural transition window. It remains the first concrete step toward normalcy in Qatar’s education sector since hostilities began.
