Philippines to send 40 generator units to Ukraine amid infrastructure damage

A humanitarian shipment from the Philippines is being prepared to assist Ukraine as it continues to deal with damage to key facilities linked to the war with Russia. The aid package includes 40 generator sets intended to help communities cope with power disruptions, particularly during colder months.

During his visit, Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Olexandr Mischenko acknowledged the role of Senator Erwin Tulfo in facilitating the provision of the equipment. He noted that the units are expected to support basic needs in affected areas, saying they would be used “for heating in time when Russia shell our critical infrastructure.”

According to Yuliia Fediv, coordination between the Ukrainian embassy and Tulfo’s office is ongoing to complete shipment arrangements. She said the generators are projected to depart Manila in the latter half of May and are expected to reach Ukraine in time for the transition into colder weather later in the year.

Fediv added, “So, hopefully within the second half of May they will be leaving Manila for Ukraine. So, we are really thankful as a country for this generous support,” and noted the timing would align with seasonal needs: “And it’s a good timing because it will arrive end of summer. So, it’s beginning of autumn when the cold season will start.”

Separately, Ma. Theresa Lazaro held talks with Mischenko as part of ongoing political consultations between the Philippines and Ukraine, expressing interest in advancing joint initiatives across areas of shared priority.
