PH, Oman push for renewed labor deal and wider job access for Filipino workers

A renewed bilateral labor agreement is on the table between the Philippines and Oman after Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac sat down with Omani Labor Minister Dr. Mahad bin Said bin Ali Baawain to discuss the next steps in their working relationship.

The talks covered three broad areas: expanding job opportunities for Filipino workers, tightening worker protection measures, and moving forward on the bilateral labor pact. Cacdac was accompanied by Philippine Ambassador Noralyn Jubaira Baja, Labor Attaché Alice Q. Visperas, and Vice Consul Angel Casquejo.

During the meeting, Cacdac laid out Manila’s priorities under the Abu Dhabi Dialogue — a regional framework that promotes fair recruitment, skills development, and stronger protections for migrant workers. He framed the Philippines-Oman relationship as one built on mutual trust and a shared regard for the dignity of Filipino workers abroad.

Both governments signaled confidence in the trajectory of their labor ties, with officials on each side expressing optimism about deepening cooperation on OFW welfare.
