OWWA flags fake Facebook group using its name to spread unauthorized scholarship information

A Facebook group with 67,000 members claiming to provide updates on OWWA scholarships has been flagged by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration as unauthorized, with the agency warning the public that it had no hand in creating or running the page.

The group, which operates under the name “Owwa Scholarship 2026 – 2027 updates,” bears OWWA’s logo and branding but was neither established nor managed by the agency. OWWA stressed that any content circulated within the group carries no official standing and does not reflect the agency’s programs or communications.

Unauthorized use of the OWWA name, logo, and official materials is strictly prohibited, the agency said, and those caught exploiting these for fraudulent purposes face legal action.

Members of the public who have encountered suspicious activity within the group or believe they have been defrauded are urged to reach out to OWWA’s Office of the Legal Staff through the following channels: email at legal@owwa.gov.ph, mobile or Viber at +639175805720, landline at +632 (8)551-6638, or local number 8891-7601 with extensions 5110 or 5111.

For verified information on scholarships and other OWWA programs, the agency directed OFWs and their families to call the OWWA Hotline at 1348 or visit the nearest regional office.
