On Eid’l Adha, Marcos calls on Filipinos to embrace selflessness over personal gain

Sacrifice made with sincerity is never lost but instead returns as blessings that strengthen families and communities — that was the message President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. delivered as Filipinos joined Muslims around the world in observing Eid’l Adha on Wednesday.

Marcos framed the Feast of Sacrifice as carrying meaning that extends beyond the Muslim faith, describing it as a reminder of the rewards of surrendering personal desires in service of something greater.

“Eid’l Adha carries a timeless message for people of all faiths and backgrounds: that sacrifice, when offered with sincerity and love, becomes a source of profound strength,” the President said.

He drew a direct connection between acts of selflessness and the broader goal of national unity, arguing that a willingness to set aside individual wants fosters deeper understanding and a more just society.

“It teaches us that whatever we surrender for what is just and noble is never lost. Rather, it is transformed into blessings that enrich our homes, strengthen our communities, and elevate our shared humanity,” Marcos added.

The President closed his message with a call for Filipinos to carry the occasion’s values into everyday life, tying the holiday’s spirit to his administration’s Bagong Pilipinas vision.

“May this sacred observance inspire deeper reflection and renew our commitment to the values that bind us together as one people and one nation. Let us carry the spirit of Eid’l Adha into our daily lives and offer our own acts of generosity in building a more compassionate and inclusive Bagong Pilipinas,” he said.

Eid’l Adha is observed by Muslims globally over three to four days, with worshippers gathering for special prayers at mosques and Islamic centers.
