No fare, no problem: RAK buses run free this Friday

Residents and visitors in Ras Al Khaimah can ride buses at no cost on Friday, with the emirate’s transport authority announcing a full waiver of fares to mark World Public Transport Day on April 17, 2026.

The Ras Al Khaimah Transport Authority (Rakta) confirmed the initiative through an Instagram post, making all bus routes across the emirate free for the day. Whether other UAE emirates plan similar gestures for the occasion has not been announced.

Across the border in Oman, Mwasalat has also rolled out a comparable offer, extending free unlimited rides to residents and tourists in Muscat and Salalah on the same date.

World Public Transport Day is observed annually on April 17 as a recognition of public transit’s role in connecting communities, supporting economic activity, and contributing to sustainable urban development.
