NBI nabs Peanut Gallery founder Franco Mabanta over Romualdez extortion claim

The National Bureau of Investigation has taken into custody Franco Mabanta, the social media commentator behind the Peanut Gallery Media Network, over alleged extortion involving former House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

NBI Director Melvin Matibag confirmed the arrest to Inquirer.net via Viber message on Wednesday, though he withheld specifics about how the operation was carried out, saying details would be released at a scheduled 11 a.m. media briefing.

Mabanta built his public profile through PGMN, a platform known for political commentary content distributed primarily on YouTube.

No further details on the charges or circumstances of the arrest have been released ahead of the briefing.
