MWO-Muscat releases guidelines for OFWs seeking $200 financial aid

The Migrant Workers Office in Muscat has issued a formal advisory outlining how overseas Filipino workers in Oman can access the one-time USD 200 financial assistance being extended by the Department of Migrant Workers to those affected by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Signed by Labor Attaché II Alice Q. Visperas, the advisory details the eligibility criteria, documentary requirements, and application process for OFWs whose livelihoods have been disrupted by the regional crisis. The USD 200 grant — equivalent to OMR 75 — is part of a broader DMW program backed by an ₱800 million budget replenishment authorized by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and released by the Department of Budget and Management.

Eligible applicants include workers who have lost employment or experienced a reduction in income due to company closures, reduced hours, or the direct effects of the conflict, as well as those who have been stranded or are unable to return to work. OFWs across 10 countries in the region — including Oman — are covered under the program.

To apply, workers must submit an accomplished Request for Assistance form, a copy of their passport, and proof of employment such as a contract, visa, or labor card. Supporting documents showing the impact on their work — such as a certification from their employer, payslips reflecting reduced income, a notice of termination, or a visa cancellation — are also required. Workers without complete documentation may submit an affidavit or a certification from a Labor Attaché or a recognized Filipino community leader.

Applications may be submitted directly to the MWO-Muscat or sent via email to mco.mct.fa@gmail.com. The office said results are expected within three days of submission of complete documents, with the approved amount disbursed directly through bank or remittance transfer. Workers who previously received less than USD 200 under the program remain eligible to claim the difference.

As of the latest available figures, 4,502 OFWs across the Middle East have already received the cash assistance, while more than 30,000 have accessed various forms of government support since the crisis began. The MWO-Muscat may be reached at +968 9355 7931 or through mwo.mct.fa@gmail.com.
