Mother arrested after being filmed shouting exam answers to her son

A short clip of a woman calling out test answers from outside a school in Egypt has turned into a criminal matter, with the parent now facing charges and her son left to sit the rest of his exams alone.

According to Egypt’s Interior Ministry, the woman positioned herself near a rear window of an examination hall at a religious institute in Dakahlia Governorate and loudly dictated responses to her son inside. Police described her as a housewife residing in the area covered by Al Kurdi Police Station.

Investigators said they located her only after the footage began circulating widely. Technical teams reviewed the recording, identified the woman, and sent officers to the institute, where she was found standing behind the examination building and taken into custody.

Questioned afterward, she acknowledged what she had done and attributed it to anxiety over her son’s prospects and the strain that exam season places on families. The episode, however, produced the opposite of what she intended, leaving her answerable to the authorities while her son continued his tests without help.

The clip, which online users began calling “balcony cheating,” racked up millions of views and reopened arguments about fairness in schooling and the weight parents carry during testing periods. Reactions split sharply: some accused her of cheating other students out of a level playing field, while others framed her as caught up in a system that bears down heavily on families.

Several Egyptian outlets likened the situation to the film “Barshama” (Cheating), which portrays parents turning to unlawful tactics to push their children toward academic success.
