Delivery driver says customer hit him over a payment mix-up in UAE

A man accused of attacking a courier at his own doorstep has denied any wrongdoing before the Sharjah Misdemeanour Court, which has yet to rule on the matter, according to Gulf Today.

The defendant told the court he never laid a hand on the complainant and rejected the version of events laid out against him. After both sides had presented their accounts and the necessary procedures were completed, the judge postponed the case to a future hearing for a decision.

The trouble began over something routine. The courier, who delivers parcels to residences, had gone to the man’s home to hand over an order and collect payment. The sum he was given exceeded what was owed, and he had no smaller bills on hand to return the difference. What started as a disagreement over change soon turned heated.

The complainant said the situation deteriorated until the resident, increasingly worked up, struck him during the exchange. That assault, the worker stated, was what led him to report the matter to authorities in the first place.
