Meet the Filipino maestro cultivating musical excellence in the UAE

Elipas Cahaponon Sibua, at 43, has established himself as an esteemed music teacher and vocal coach with a global reach. His current role at Sunmarke School in Jumeirah Village Triangle sees him nurturing the talents of VIP students in guitar, piano, and vocals. His professional journey in music education, which began back in 2006, has been marked by a series of impressive accomplishments and an enduring passion for the performing arts.

Elipas’s approach to teaching is deeply influenced by his personal philosophy—“Forever Grateful”—which resonates through his commitment to his students.

“I am dedicated to nurturing the exceptional skills of students in the performing arts, guiding them towards excellence,” Elipas tells The Global Filipino Magazine.

His dedication is evident from his recognition at numerous international platforms, including receiving the 2024 Asia’s Media Choice Award for “Most Outstanding and Trusted International Vocal Coach of the Year.”

Choosing to work abroad was influenced by a mix of personal and practical reasons.

“Life in the Philippines was challenging at that time, and I was also seeking a new environment where I could continue pursuing my passion for music,” he recounts.

This decision led him to roles that span across continents, including a significant tenure at Saud International School in Saudi Arabia, before his current position at Sunmarke School.

Throughout his career, Elipas has been instrumental in helping his students achieve notable successes in various competitions, such as the World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA). His students’ achievements are a source of great pride and joy for him.

Despite his successes, Elipas’s journey has not been without its hardships. He describes the emotional toll of facing job insecurity and professional setbacks.

“It was emotionally taxing,” he admits.

Overcoming these challenges required a combination of resilience, skill enhancement, and the unwavering support from his loved ones. Participating in international competitions like the WCOPA also presented its challenges, involving intense preparation and the management of large teams, often single-handedly.

Elipas is deeply committed to community service, which he pursues alongside his wife through various initiatives in his hometown of Sipalay City, Philippines. They have initiated outreach programs, such as a weekly feeding program and distribution of school supplies.

“God willing, we aspire to continue our ministry and outreach efforts upon our return,” he notes, highlighting his plans to sustain these efforts long-term.

For expatriates facing difficulties, Elipas offers sage advice that blends professional diligence with personal care.

“Love and embrace your current job, follow and obey the rules and regulations set by the Emirates,” he advises. He also emphasizes the importance of maintaining connections with family and staying resilient through challenges.
