Landslide in Al Ain destroys road, heavy rains cause widespread disruption

A devastating landslide in the Al Qua region of Al Ain has transformed a road into a “raging river,” according to witnesses. The landslide was triggered by recent heavy rains and overflowing wadis in the area.

Videos of the incident show motorists cautiously approaching the collapsed roadway before realizing the severity of the situation. One harrowing clip even depicts a car being swept away by the powerful currents unleashed by the landslide.

“The hailstorm was of massive size… and caused severe damage,” said Fahad Mohamad, a representative from the storm center, describing the conditions in Al Ain.

Further disruptions include a collapsed road section heading towards Emirates Road in Ras Al Khaimah. Police in the area urge motorists to exercise caution and strictly avoid the closed-off areas. A bridge closure adds to the complications.

These events come after similar incidents last month and are associated with an ongoing unstable weather system affecting the UAE. Conditions are expected to improve on Wednesday.
