Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo celebrates son Lucho being named Player of the Match in Spain

Two daughters, Yohan and Luna, complete the Agoncillo household, but it was the family’s only son who took center stage this month. Juan Luis “Lucho” Agoncillo earned Player of the Match honors at an international football tournament in Spain, prompting his mother, actress Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo, to share a heartfelt tribute online.

On July 11, Judy Ann posted a series of photos to Instagram documenting the competition. The images showed Lucho on the field, along with a family portrait featuring her husband, Ryan Agoncillo. Her son’s squad placed 16th out of more than 70 international teams at the event.

“My dearest boy… mama’s heart couldn’t be more prouder of you.. 🥹 watching how you pour your heart, energy and dedication into every game .. YOU ARE AMAZING! you are amazing in many, many ways.. being named ‘player of the match’, for your team to rank 16 out of 70+ international teams.. you’ve come a long way my love,” she wrote.

Judy Ann noted that the tournament gave Lucho the chance to reconnect with teammates he had known since childhood while also building new friendships in the sport.

What resonated most with the actress, though, had little to do with results on the pitch. She said the affection Lucho continues to show his family is what she values above his athletic accomplishments.

“But you know what i love the most? Its the tight hugs and kisses you give me and dada every after game.. the way you still kiss your sisters on their forehead everytime you see them, makes me more prouder of the man your becoming to be. 🥲”

Encouraging her son to keep pursuing football, Judy Ann promised her ongoing support, framing it around the everyday routines of a devoted mother.

“My love.. go and chase your dreams, we will support you no matter what.. as long as you want me to cook rice (kanin is life) adobo and salpicao for you and do your laundry for every tournaments such as this, i will do so with a very happy heart. You will always be mama’s favorite son. ❤️ i love you to the moon and back a thousand times and beyond,” she maintained.

Fellow celebrities responded to the post with congratulatory messages.

“Super proud of Kuya Lucho!!!! Congrats to him and to you and Ry!!!! ❤️❤️❤️ we love you guys!!!! Thanks for looking out for Crix always!😍😍😍,” wrote Ciara Sotto.

Gladys Reyes chimed in as well: “Yey! Congrats Lucho!! You are getting more handsome. Congrats as well to the supportive and loving parents @officialjuday and @ryan_agoncillo.”

The Spain tournament is the latest stop in a football journey Judy Ann has chronicled for years, covering matches Lucho has played both domestically and abroad. The family previously traveled to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2023 for another of his competitions.

That discipline is something Judy Ann has praised publicly before. Speaking on BRGY, she pointed to her son’s maturity in balancing athletics with academics.

“For his age, he already knows his focus, his goals, he’s very disciplined in eating, in sleeping,” she said, adding that a drop in his school grades would mean cutting back on football.
