From Manila to Dubai: How BINI’s ‘Pantropiko’ became a global phenomenon

Dubai has caught the “Pantropiko” fever, thanks to the P-pop sensation BINI. The girl group, which debuted in 2021, has made headlines again after their latest single “Pantropiko” reached the pinnacle of the Billboard Philippines charts. The infectious track, a surprising hit from their late 2023 release, has now sparked a dance craze that has taken over Dubai.

The catchy tune initially launched in November 2023 and experienced a slow ascent. However, it saw a remarkable rise to fame, breaking into the Spotify Charts’ Daily Top Songs for the Philippines on February 11, 2024, and eventually securing the top spot by April 18. This surge in popularity was cemented as the group claimed the number one position on the Billboard Philippines this week, surpassing international hits like Ariana Grande’s “we can’t be friends (wait for your love)” and gins&melodies’ “Babaero”.

In Dubai, Filipino dancer Ronie Bacalso took to TikTok to showcase his rendition of the “Pantropiko” dance, which has now amassed over 64,000 views. The viral dance challenge has not only showcased his creative flair but also highlighted the global appeal of P-pop. TikTok users have been quick to praise the dance, with comments like “Astig nung background”, “Solid yung moves!”, and “Ang galing!”, celebrating the vibrant choreography set against dynamic backdrops.
