The Philippines ranked 55th out of 97 countries in the 2026 Internet Connectivity Index compiled by eSIM provider Saily, scoring 49.52 — just below the global average of 50 — according to data published by BusinessWorld on September 3, 2026.
The result marks a decline from the previous edition, when the country placed 42nd of 96 countries with a score of 52.85, comfortably above the average. The drop of 13 places and more than three points pushes the Philippines from above-average to below-average territory in the span of a year.
Saily, the travel eSIM app operated by NordVPN, scores each country from 0 to 100 across four equally weighted pillars — cyber safety, internet quality, internet freedom, and internet affordability — to gauge how easily travelers and remote workers can get online. A higher score signals easier, safer, and more affordable access.
The Philippines’ 2026 profile shows uneven performance across the four measures. It scored 58.47 on affordability and 55.47 on quality, both above its combined score, and 50.14 on cyber safety. Internet freedom dragged the total down sharply at 33.99, the country’s weakest pillar by a wide margin.
The Philippines also trailed most of its regional neighbors. Thailand led the sampled East and Southeast Asian economies at 57.31 (25th globally), followed by Malaysia at 56.99, Singapore at 55.42, Japan at 55.12, and South Korea at 53.32. Vietnam edged out the Philippines at 49.59 (54th). Only Indonesia (46.44), China (46.13), and Cambodia (35.48) ranked lower among the countries shown.
Globally, Estonia topped the index at 65.98, ahead of Lithuania (65.55), Denmark (64.78), Portugal (63.50), and France (63.11) — a European sweep of the top five. At the bottom sat Cameroon (33.09), Zimbabwe (33.44), Venezuela (33.96), Cambodia (35.48), and Bolivia (35.68).
