Residents of Barangay Catablan in Urdaneta City, Pangasinan, were roused by gunshots Tuesday night, setting off a police response that ended with the discovery of a 72-year-old former overseas Filipino worker lying on the ground with multiple bullet wounds.
Officers from the Urdaneta City Police Station were alerted to the shooting by community members in the area. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead.
Physical evidence gathered at the scene included three fired cartridge cases and one slug, which investigators have preserved for examination. Closed-circuit television footage from the vicinity captured a man fleeing the location shortly after the shooting, though no arrest has been made.
Police have yet to establish a motive or identify a suspect. Follow-up investigation is ongoing.
