Host Ryan Bang turned his 35th birthday into an occasion to give back, sharing a portion of his personal savings with his personal assistant and driver during a celebration documented in a vlog on his YouTube channel.
Bang, who has been part of the noontime variety show It’s Showtime since 2010, said he set aside P1,000 every month from the start of his hosting career. That habit grew into savings of P190,000, according to PhilNews, which cited a report by the Philippine Daily Inquirer. He chose to divide part of that amount between the two people he described as closest to him in the Philippines.
“Araw-araw ko kasi kasama ‘yung driver ko and PA ko. Ilang taon na, more than 10 years. So gusto ko hatiin ‘yung inipon ko na kahit hindi super laki, para makatulong sa mga inaanak ko,” Bang said in the vlog.
Handing the gift to his personal assistant, he added: “May naipon ako, Joyce, noong umpisa ako Showtime. Kaya gusto ko gamitin mo ito, promise ha, para sa anak mo.” He told her that his parents had advised him to look after those closest to him, telling her that her family was his family too.
His driver, whose daughter is Bang’s godchild, also received a share of the savings. Reporting from GMA noted that portions of the money were intended to help with the medical needs of his assistant’s child.
Born in Seoul, Bang rose to fame in the Philippines as first runner-up on Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Clash 2010 and has since become one of the few Korean personalities to build a lasting career on Philippine television. It’s Showtime is produced by ABS-CBN Studios and airs Mondays to Saturdays across Kapamilya Channel, A2Z, GMA, and ALLTV.
