Fake news alert: Sharjah authorities deny tiger sighting allegations

In response to circulating rumors, Sharjah authorities have firmly denied claims of a tiger being sighted roaming within the emirate. The Environment and Protected Areas Authority of Sharjah issued a statement cautioning the public against spreading unverified information, urging citizens to rely solely on official sources for updates.

This denial comes amidst heightened concerns following reports of a potential tiger sighting. The authority’s prompt response seeks to reassure residents and dispel any unnecessary panic. Notably, the UAE has strict laws against spreading fake news, with penalties ranging from fines of Dh100,000 to Dh200,000 and imprisonment for one to two years.

The last confirmed incident involving a wild animal on the loose in the UAE dates back to 2021, when a sighting in Dubai’s Springs community caused widespread alarm. Authorities remain vigilant in upholding public safety and maintaining accurate information dissemination channels.
