Age doesn’t matter: 60-year-old lawyer crowned Miss Universe Buenos Aires

Alejandra Rodríguez, a 60-year-old lawyer and journalist from Argentina, has made waves in the world of beauty pageants by clinching the title of Miss Universe Buenos Aires. Rodríguez’s victory marks the first time a contestant of her age has won a provincial title, defeating 34 other hopefuls ranging from 18 to 73 years old.

Rodríguez’s triumph comes amidst a transformative period for the Miss Universe competition, which has been breaking stereotypes under new leadership. Last year’s edition notably welcomed mothers, married women, divorcees, and plus-size candidates, shaking up traditional norms. In 2023, age limits were also abolished, allowing women of all ages above 18 to compete, a departure from the previous restriction barring contestants above 28.

In an interview with local media outlet El Trece, Rodríguez expressed the significance of her win, stating, “We are inaugurating a new stage in which women represent not only physical beauty but another set of values. I am the first in this generation to start with this.”

Rodríguez’s victory has sparked admiration on social media, with many marveling at her age-defying beauty. “Sixty years old? Can’t be,” remarked one Instagram user, while another emphasized the importance of attributes beyond physical appearance, commenting, “She needs to win it. Today, the Miss Universe organization is looking for a woman who has oratory, social project and is well prepared.”

As Miss Universe Argentina showcases its contestants on Instagram ahead of the national competition on May 25, Rodríguez’s photo has garnered the most attention, amassing 6,000 likes. A glance at her Instagram profile reveals her dedication to a healthy lifestyle and her affinity for nature, particularly the beach.

Commenting on Rodríguez’s representation, Miss Universe Buenos Aires praised her as a “multifaceted, professional woman” committed to showcasing Buenos Aires province in the best light at the national final.
