Emirates records busiest summer with 2 million passengers to Dubai

Emirates, the United Arab Emirates’ flagship carrier, marked its busiest summer on record, ferrying two million passengers to Dubai, underscoring the city’s status as a year-round global tourist magnet.

The spike in passengers during the summer of 2023 is a testament to Dubai’s growing allure, aided by the wave of ‘revenge travel’ as the world rebounds from the pandemic. In just the first half of the year, Dubai welcomed 8.55 million international visitors, inching past its pre-pandemic tally of 8.36 million. Festival times saw hotels brimming with almost no vacancies.

The city’s vibrant offerings, from indoor sports to cultural events in malls, keep drawing tourists. Trivago, a German global accommodation search platform, ranked Dubai as the third most favored summer destination for Americans, following Honolulu and Tokyo.

Emirates disclosed that during the summer, the majority of its inbound traffic to Dubai hailed from the UK, India, Germany, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, China, Egypt, and Kuwait. A significant observation was that over 35% of these were families, spending an average of two weeks soaking in Dubai’s charm.

Adnan Kazim, Chief Commercial Officer at Emirates, remarked, “Despite the cost-of-living challenges in various regions, travel demand remains robust. This signifies the importance people attach to travel for diverse reasons.”

On Wednesday, Emirates revealed its commendable performance between June and August, having transported over 14 million passengers across its network, with an impressive average load factor exceeding 80%. The airline clocked nearly 50,000 flights connecting 140 cities during this period.

The airline remains optimistic about the forthcoming months. Dubai’s calendar is packed with global conferences and top-tier sporting events, which is expected to further fuel demand.

Additionally, Dubai’s hosting of the COP28 later this year is anticipated to be a significant boost for the city’s travel, tourism, and hospitality sectors, as delegates, media personnel, and top officials from around the world converge for the event.

Kazim added, “We’re elated with the strong customer leaning towards our offerings, particularly in our premium cabins. Our commitment remains to provide unmatched value by continually enhancing our products and services.”
