Dubai Police helped teen begging near mosque because his family was having trouble

A 14-year-old boy, who was discovered begging near a mosque, has been reunited with his family after running away from home due to familial disputes.

The Dubai Police responded to a concerned resident’s report on Sunday, swiftly locating and removing the child from the streets. Brigadier Ali Salem Al Shamsi, a director with the General Department of Criminal Investigations, stated, “Swift action was taken to approach and support the child, and his story was attentively heard.”

According to Brig Al Shamsi, the boy had fled his home due to intense family conflicts arising from his parents’ divorce and his father’s remarriage. The police did not disclose the duration of the boy’s absence from home or his whereabouts during that time, nor did they reveal the family’s nationality.

After contacting the boy’s family, an agreement was reached that the child would reside with his mother, offering him a fresh start in life. Brig Al Shamsi emphasized the importance of resolving familial conflicts away from children’s presence and urged parents to prioritize their children’s well-being.

The officer also cautioned residents against sympathizing with beggars or offering them money, revealing that 202 beggars had been arrested in the first two weeks of Ramadan as part of a police campaign. Many of these individuals exploited people’s generosity during the holy month, employing fabricated stories and deceptive tactics near mosques, clinics, hospitals, markets, and streets.
