A design challenge rooted in food culture and sustainability is now open to Dubai residents, with Waterfront Market putting up an AED 10,000 grand prize for the winning entry.
The initiative, called ‘Carry What Matters,’ asks participants to create an original canvas bag design that reflects the UAE’s food traditions, everyday shopping moments, and the ingredients that shape how communities here cook and eat. The market, billed as Dubai’s largest fresh food destination, is framing the challenge as part of the broader ‘Proud of UAE’ movement, which celebrates local identity, creativity, and community.
Schools, families, and young creatives are among those being encouraged to take part. Entries must be submitted in A4 format through direct message on Instagram (@wfm.uae) or Facebook (@wfmuae), accompanied by the participant’s name, age, and a brief note on the inspiration behind the design. The submission window runs from May 21 to June 30.
Selected designs will be produced as limited-edition, collectible canvas bags, with each piece carrying a permanent credit to the artist. A panel of judges will evaluate submissions based on how well they capture the food culture of the UAE.
The winning bags will be unveiled at Waterfront Market on July 3, timed to coincide with International Plastic Bag Free Day.
More information on participation is available at www.waterfrontmarket.ae or through the market’s social media channels.
