Driver who fled gas station without paying turns himself in

A man from Bulacan has surrendered to authorities days after fleeing a Quezon City gas station without paying for more than P5,000 worth of diesel fuel.

The suspect, identified only by his alias “Jefferson,” 27, of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan, walked into the La Loma Police Station on Tuesday alongside family members. Quezon City Police Director Brig. Gen. Randy Glenn Silvio confirmed the surrender.

Investigators traced the suspect through CCTV footage reviewed in coordination with other agencies, which allowed them to identify both the vehicle and its driver. The incident occurred at a gas station along Balintawak, EDSA, where Jefferson had a full tank of diesel filled — amounting to P5,196 — before driving off without paying.

What the suspect apparently did not anticipate was that the footage would circulate widely online. According to police, Jefferson stopped traveling and stayed off social media after learning the video had gone viral, not realizing that authorities had already launched a search for him. He remained at his Bulacan residence, where the vehicle was also found.

Jefferson apologized to the gas station’s management and expressed remorse, attributing his actions to the high cost of fuel and what he described as insufficient income. Police said they would nonetheless move forward with an estafa complaint before the City Prosecutor’s Office.
