A P100 million allocation is backing the AKSYON Fund at the Department of Migrant Workers–National Capital Region (DMW-NCR), which has confirmed the money is again available to overseas Filipino workers in trouble after a temporary diversion toward Middle East evacuations.
Regional Director Atty. Falconi Millar, appearing on DAILY TRIBUNE’s Usapang OFW, said the agency is operating with that P100 million budget and stressed that approved claims are normally acted on right away when no emergency intervenes.
The pause came when the conflict abroad forced the DMW to shift its priorities. “Because of the conflict in the eastern region, the DMW had to take immediate action. We prioritized bringing home our fellow Filipinos affected by the war, and the AKSYON Fund was used for their repatriation,” Millar said.
Under ordinary conditions, the fund—Agarang Kalinga at Saklolo para sa mga OFW na Nangangailangan—releases money two times a week to workers hit by emergencies overseas. What a beneficiary receives depends on the situation: P50,000 covers those clashing with their employers, P75,000 goes to workers who are gravely ill, and P100,000 is reserved for the families of Filipinos who lose their lives while employed abroad.
Applicants are free to lodge their requests at whichever DMW regional office is most convenient, with no requirement to return to the branch serving their home province.
